Online Safety
ONLINE SAFETY POLICY
The purpose of the internet is to raise educational standards, to promote pupil achievement, to support the professional work of staff and to enhance the school's management information and business administration systems.
The online safety policy on this page sets out how this will be done at St Robert's within a safe and accountable way.
The 'Pupil Acceptable Use' agreement is updated on the school website and the link is shared with parents via the school newsletter at the start of the new school year. These e-safety rules are displayed around the school. Staff, Governors and volunteers are also expected to follow the e-safety code of conduct for St Robert's. Both of these policies are available in the Docs & Links section on this page.
AGE RESTRICTIONS FOR SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS
We know that many children are using social media when ‘officially’ they are too young to sign up to the sites – we know because they tell us!
Lots of them say that Mums and Dads have signed them up – sometimes years ago.
There’s nothing illegal in that, but please keep in mind that if you signed your 8 year old up to Facebook five years ago, saying they were 13 years old – they now appear as an 18 year old on the site.
If an adult tries to groom your now 13 year old via social media, they will be able to argue that they thought they were talking to another adult.
Remember to update their details, check their privacy settings, and talk to them about which pictures they use for their profile, so they’re safe online.

THINK U KNOW
Concerned?
If you're worried about your child and think something is not quite right, it's best to be on the safe side and find out more.
About Thinkuknow
Thinkuknow is an education programme from the National Crime Agency’s CEOP Command.
Since 2006, Thinkuknow has been keeping children and young people safe by providing education about sexual abuse and sexual exploitation.
Thinkuknow is unique. It is underpinned by the latest intelligence about child sex offending from CEOP Command.
Thinkuknow aims to ensure that everyone has access to this practical information – children, young people, their parents and carers and the professionals who work with them.
Alongside the Thinkuknow website the programme provides educational resources, including films, cartoons and lesson plans, to help professionals raise young people’s awareness.
